The Ghanbarinia House traces its origins to Shiraz in 1841.
A city shaped by poetry, reflection, and cultural depth, Shiraz formed the foundations of the family’s outlook; one grounded in patience, discipline, and respect for beauty.
From the beginning, Persian carpets were regarded not as commodities, but as cultural expressions. Objects of meaning, created through time, knowledge, and restraint.
A Defining Move
In the early 1980s, Haj Mahmoud Ghanbarinia made a decisive choice to relocate the family and its business from Shiraz to Dubai. At the time, Dubai was still defining its commercial identity. The move required foresight rather than certainty.
By the mid-1980s, the House had established a presence in the region, introducing Persian carpets to a new audience. Their scale, refinement, and craftsmanship resonated immediately, particularly within the Arab world, where appreciation for heritage runs deep.
What began as transition became foundation.
Expansion with Purpose
Around the turn of the millennium, Amir Ghanbarinia assumed responsibility for the House’s expansion. The growth that followed was international, but never indiscriminate.
The focus remained on selection rather than volume—on rare, large-scale, and culturally significant works. Persian carpets were positioned not only as decorative elements, but as long-term assets and collectible works.
By the early 2000s, the Ghanbarinia House had evolved from a regional presence into a global platform for fine Persian carpets.
A Flagship for Persian Carpets
The opening of a flagship gallery in Dubai Mall marked a further milestone.
Located at the intersection of global culture and commerce, the space was conceived not as a retail outlet, but as a curated presentation of Iranian weaving at its highest level.
Completed around 2020, the Dubai Mall gallery established the Ghanbarinia House as a reference point for Persian carpets worldwide.
Collecting as Responsibility
Throughout its history, one principle has remained unchanged: a carpet holds value only when chosen with knowledge, restraint, and responsibility.
The Ghanbarinia House developed its expertise through collecting rather than trading, forming one of the world’s most extensive and carefully preserved carpet collections.
